Bruce J. Sangeorzan, MD, vice chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at the University of Washington, Seattle, has been named president-elect of the 2,027-member American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS). Sangeorzan will focus much of his 14-month term on strategic development of the Society, whose members specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal system of the foot and ankle.

"The AOFAS has changed dramatically and positively over the last decade, becoming more inclusive and adopting more professional processes and transparency," Sangeorzan said. "It has never been more important to be part of professional medical organizations and participate in an active way in the decision-making process. Similarly, it has never been more important to document the quality of care that physicians provide their patients."
