Dr. Sigvard R. Hansen, Jr. (Harborview Medical Center)
Dr. Andrew Sands (St. Vincent's Medical Center)
This program features the singular contributions of Dr. Sigvard T. Hansen Jr from several viewpoints. The viewers are exposed to the real-life story of a patient, Marty Kniest, who in 1968 sustained a series of life-threatening injuries. She received care by Dr. S.T Hansen at Harborview Medical Center in form of then revolutionary intramedullary femoral nails. These devices and the surgery were credited with the turnaround of the patient. The patient and her surgeon are reunited 48 years later in this video footage created by Dr. Robert Clawson, Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, UW and Northwest Hospital and narrated by M. Richard Foley, TV personality. Dr. Hansen then reflects on what prompted him to break new grounds and finally Dr. Andrew Sands, St. Vincent's Hospital New York, New York, provides a light-hearted reflection on Dr. Hansen's career.
