March 6, 2013 Grand Rounds Video: Superior Labrum Tears in the Shoulder: Controversies and Consensus
Nathan Coleman, MD, Orthopaedic Surgery Resident
Albert Gee, MD, Assistant Professor
Winston Warme, MD, Associate Professor
This episode of Grand Rounds discusses superior labrum anterior posterior tears (SLAP tears) of the glenoid labrum. The goal is to present viewers with what a SLAP tear is, describe how it occurs, and what it looks like on physical exam and MRI. Currently, orthopaedic surgeons are repairing SLAP tears at a rate much greater than the literature would suggest. The speakers present a patient specific treatment strategy, and elucidate which types of SLAP tears should be repaired and those that should be treated conservatively. This programs should help viewers clarifiy the controversy surrounding the management of SLAP tears.
