The mission of the University of Washington Adult Reconstruction Fellowship is to provide a comprehensive and rigorous training experience focused on the evaluation, management, and surgical treatment of hip and knee disorders. By working side-by-side with our faculty across the full spectrum of adult reconstruction care—including clinic, operating room, inpatient management, and perioperative optimization—we expect our fellow to gain broad exposure to both primary and complex arthroplasty cases. This includes degenerative disease, deformity, post-traumatic arthritis, and the full range of revision scenarios.
Surgical training emphasizes the development of advanced technical skills in primary total hip and knee arthroplasty, revision procedures, and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. Fellows will gain experience with multiple surgical approaches and contemporary implant systems in order to develop versatility and confidence in operative decision-making.
In conjunction with the clinical experience, our fellow will cultivate the ability to critically evaluate orthopaedic adult reconstruction literature through regular journal clubs and structured didactics. Fellows are supported in pursuing meaningful scholarly work, including clinical research, implant outcomes analysis, quality improvement initiatives, and opportunities for publication and presentation.
Our goal is to prepare the fellow for a successful career as a confident, thoughtful, and technically excellent adult reconstruction surgeon—ready to deliver high-quality hip and knee arthroplasty care in any practice environment.
