Dr. Jerry Huang recently became the first surgeon in the Pacific Northwest to perform a new thumb joint replacement surgical procedure.
Existing surgical options for thumb arthritis involve long recoveries and limited mobility and strength post-procedure. Approved for use in the US last summer, a new joint replacement procedure for thumb arthritis utilizes a metal and polyethylene prosthetic thumb joint.
Dr. Huang compared the new procedure to a "mini hip replacement." The new procedure will allow patients a quicker recovery, less pain, and increased range of motion after surgery compared to existing surgical treatments for thumb arthritis.
