Dr. Chris Kweon, Program Director of Orthopaedic Surgery Residency, recently shared a heartfelt message of congratulations and thanks to our graduating residents. "Though we are not able to celebrate this significant achievement in our traditional fashion, the ways in which we appreciate all that they have done for UW and what they will continue to do for our residency program cannot be understated."
Prashoban Bremjit, M.D.
After graduation, Prash will be moving to Chicago to begin a fellowship in Arthroplasty and Joint Replacements at Rush University Medical Center. After his fellowship, he plans on returning home to the Pacific Northwest to start his practice alongside his fiancé and soon-to-be wife Jamie, a general surgery resident.
Thomas Byrnes, M.D.
After graduation, Thomas, his wife, Mariam, and their ninemonth- old daughter, Layla, will be moving to Philadelphia where he will complete a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. After fellowship, they will return to Seattle where Mariam will start dermatology residency at UW and Thomas will start practice. Layla will remain unemployed for the foreseeable future.
Matthew Folchert, M.D.
After graduation, Matt and his wife Jacki, with their golden doodle Remi, will be moving to Philadelphia to complete a fellowship in Hand Surgery at the Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center. Afterwards, they will decide whether to stay in the greater Philadelphia area or explore another part of the country.
Boris Kovalenko, M.D.
After graduation, Boris will return to Atlanta, GA to begin fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at Emory University. His fiancé, Maansi Dave, will stay in the Seattle area as she advances her career at Zillow. Afterwards, he hopes to return west to begin practice.
Brett Schiffman, M.D.
After graduation, Brett and his wife Margaret will be moving to Baltimore where he will complete a fellowship in Hand Surgery at the Curtis National Hand Center. Afterwards, they hope to settle somewhere warm and sunny.
Cody Tipton, M.D.
After graduation, Cody, his wife Ashley, and beautiful children, Cohen and Sloane, will be moving to Taos, New Mexico to begin fellowship in Sports Medicine. There he will assist as team physician to the United States Ski and Snowboard Team. After completion of fellowship, the Tipton's hope to return to the Pacific Northwest.
Anthony Yi, M.D.
After graduation, Anthony will move to Boston to complete a fellowship in Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgery at Harvard Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Joanna, his fiancé, will join him after she completes her Nurse Practitioner Fellowship in Hospitalist Medicine at Virginia Mason. They plan ultimately to return to Washington, where they both grew up and where their families live. They hope their future includes children and a baby kangaroo, which they plan to name “Wally.”
