University of Washington Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Virtual Experience for 4th Year Medical Students
We hope you are staying safe and well! The University of Washington Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Medical Student Education team would like to share with you our Virtual Experience Material that will hopefully give you a taste of our program from afar available September 14 – October 23.
Our goal is to show you a sampling of the educational experiences from live conferences to previously recorded material. We understand that you are likely engaged in clinical rotations at your home institutions and we don’t want our experience to create conflict so we have put together an opportunity that should afford some flexibility. Thus we hope that you will find interesting content to choose from on our website of recorded conferences, teaching session, grand rounds, and more that will help provide you with an idea of what our program is about. Note that your decision to participate in this experience will neither add nor hinder you Residency Application.
If you chose to participate, we will be encouraging you to watch at least one of our Monday Morning Conferences (MMC) which is our dedicated 3 hour weekly resident educational session for all of the residents. In addition, we suggest watching at least one Grand Rounds which is our monthly departmental session that is usually a combined presentation of a resident and a faculty member or visiting speaker (there will be 1 live opportunity during this time period on October 7th, previous sessions can be found in the curriculum tabs). Due to compliance issues, we can only invite you to a few of our other teaching sessions. We have a 2 hour fracture conference every Monday afternoon from 4-6 pm. This is a post op conference where review all of the fracture cases from the previous week. Also, you are invited to the Sports Medicine Didactic Conference presented by Residents (specific Wednesdays from 6:30-7am, dates for this conference will be posted on the schedule tab). We will be monitoring attendance for these conferences, so pre-registration will occur for these sessions and more information will be sent once registered. These live conferences are available to you from 9/14-10/23. All our previously recorded material will be available to you at your convenience along with other great content from different sub-specialties within our department in our secured course portal. We will also be expecting you to complete an end of experience document once the term is over. That will be sent/provided to you at a later date.
Again, we want to emphasize that we understand you are most likely on clinical rotations and schedules might not match up to our live conferences. Please take note of our previously recorded material. If you are unable to participate in this virtual experience, it will in no way hinder or affect your Residency Application. Thank you!
